Destiny problems and failures – Androidizen

Destiny problems and failures – while Destiny is a great game, its rough edges shine brightly, so let’s discuss them.

Warning this Destiny problems and failures video contains footage from late in the first half of the game.

Destiny’s biggest issue is the terrible voice over work that causes the dialogue to feel bland and uninteresting. It literally feels like the voice actors were reading from cue cards and the engineers used the first take they laid down.

Destiny’s story is central to the reason to continue playing and with such flat voice work it really takes any urgency out of the missions you are going on.

Mission design in Destiny is also bland and uninteresting. Once you have played a few it’s rinse, repeat over and over again.

Stretches of missions in Destiny involve corridors with nothing to shoot leading to a big room with wave after wave of enemies. It’s weak game design not even hitting the level of immersion of a Battlefield single player campaign, let alone COD or Wolfenstein.

Multiplayer maps feel too big for the number of players they allow leading to a lot of walking trying to find something to kill, this is especially pronounced in Deathmatch and 3v3 matches.

Destiny is a fine game but its rough edges shine brightly, a little too brightly imo. ****

Planetary Annihilation review RTS with massive scale – Androidizen

Planetary Annihilation Review RTS With Massive Scale, Planetary Annihilation has now launched so after over a year with the game let’s take a look at how the final product turned out.

Planetary Annihilation offers huge scale with robots fighting it out with huge armies across planets and moons – all rendered in real time.

Planetary Annihilation brings together the best of RTS of the last 20 years and infuses it with scale the likes of which has never been done in a game before.

The engine is top notch keeping the action moving even with 1000’s of units on screen, though you’re going to want a Dual Core CPU as a minimum and ideally Quad Core with 8gig of ram and a 560 GPU to get the best out of it.

With such massive scale it’s a wonder Planetary Annihilation runs so well and it’s testament to the skill of the developers in nailing a true RTS god among men. ****

Strife review the nextgen MOBA accessible to all – Androidizen

Strife review the nextgen Moba accessible to all. Today we take a look at Strife, a new MOBA, that aims to be more accessible than game likes LOL or DOTA2.

Strife has a few nice twists on the usual formula including a deadlock breaking giant ape, weapon crafting, personal courier and your own pet you level up between matches.

Strife delivers a fresh take on the MOBA formula and it does it with style and ambition that is rarely seen.

We were very impressed with Strife’s combination of gameplay and graphics – they really nailed it! ****

Destiny is not a $500 million game! – Androidizen

Destiny is not a $500 million game and let me tell you why. Destiny is a 10-year deal between Activision and Bungie and that changes things.

The $500 million for Destiny is totalled over the life of the 10-year contract and certainly isn’t just for the first game nor is that just for game development, it includes everything that goes into Destiny from PR and marketing to printing and distribution.

Destiny is certainly going to be a massive hit but it’s not a $500 million game!

Destiny is the next evolution of the first-person action genre that provides an unprecedented combination of storytelling, co-operative, competitive, and public gameplay, and personal activities that are all seamlessly woven into an expansive, persistent online world. Venture out alone or join up with friends. The choice is yours. ****

Elite Dangerous preview and10 million Views – Androidizen

Elite Dangerous Preview & 10million views. Today, to mark 10 million views let’s preview Elite Dangerous, Elite was one of the first games I ever played so seems fitting we take a look at its 2014 incarnation on a milestone day.

Elite Dangerous offers you the chance to pilot your own starship exploring the galaxy and playing anyway you choose.

Elite Dangerous is a game that won’t hold your hand, everything is up to you to learn including how to pilot your ship and even land at space stations.

So far I’m loving Elite Dangerous. Iit offers everything that has been missing in gaming for a while, huge scope, challenging difficulty and a sense of style rarely seen.

EE new PAYG 4G pricing isn’t a rip off – Androidizen

EE’s new PAYG 4G pricing isn’t a rip off which is news worthy. EE has decided to go after the PAYG market with aggressive 4G packages starting at just £1 a week.

However the true value really kicks in on EE PAYG at £15 a month for 2 gig of 4G data, 500 Minutes and Unlimited texts.

As deals go PAYG on EE is better value for money than taking out an EE contract.

Windows 9 Mini Start Menu? – Androidizen

Windows 9 Mini Start Menu? All the chatter now is not of Windows 9 having a start menu but of it having a Mini Start menu. What could this mean?

It’s hard to judge just from a naming convention but I think it’s telling that Windows 9’s Start Menu has been granted the word Mini. Could it be that Windows 9 will return the start menu but not in the exact form we might haveexpected?

Seems likely that Windows 9 would want to redevelop the way the Start Menu is used if they are forced to include it. A smaller vertical menu could help to keep a clean look but may also create a less useful more cluttered Windows 9 Start Menu.

We will know more in a few weeks at the Microsoft Windows 9 event on September 30, 2014. ****
