But if you fancy a challenge with beautiful graphics of mountainous and coastal scenery and ancient city ruins then Pocket Rally Lite will fit the bill.

One from the Illusion Magic Studio and free to play, it has quite realistic mechanics and the tracks are entertaining to race on.

The graphic fidelity extends to the cars which each have different characteristics, as does the terrain which varies from hard surfaces like tarmac to gravel and grass. The cars also evolve as they win races.

You can race up to four cars in one game and there are four control modes and three camera angles which you can choose through an in-game toggle.

If you’re not the world’s best racing driver then you also get the chance to watch a replay of your race so that you can learn from your mistakes. On the other hand, if you have done particularly well then you can boast about it to your friends.

More cars and tracks are unlocked by winning challenges and there are two game modes, challenge and single race mode.

This is a fun game but new cars and levels probably won’t be catered for in this free version, warn the devs. The lite version also only has six levels of the challenge mode so some of the cars and tracks can’t be unlocked.

A recent update has improved the game with better engine sounds so you can hear the gear changes and there are several other upgrades including no speed limit. A brake light effect has also been added.

Pocket Rally Lite has been getting rave reviews on the Google Play Store so check it out. You need Android 2.0.1 and up and the size of the game is 25m.

It goes without saying that Pocket Rally suitable for all age ranges and is ideal family entertainment for a wet summer afternoon.

At £3.11 from the Google Play Store, this isn’t a cheap game, but it does have a lot of entertainment value and repeat playability.

Basically, it’s another of these games where the world is coming to an end and there aren’t many people left, but you’re one of them, trying to survive in an increasingly difficult world where your best bet for continued existence are the death races.

You can create your own custom character and kart from various themes and then arm yourself with an arsenal of weapons, including missiles, mines and other far-fetched but entertaining items. You can unlock new hardware to make your character even more effective.

There are single player game modes but if you want to create global mayhem you just go online and pal up with other people in multiplayer mode.

This is one from the Polarbit stable and has some great graphics and entertaining gameplay. We think it’s fab!
