Galaxy S6 Review – today we are taking a look at the Samsung Galaxy S6 here, not the Edge. I will have a separate video uploaded in a few days explaining the reasons why, but it mostly comes down to the fact that the Galaxy S6 is the one that the majority of users are going to be picking up this year.

Let’s dive into the specs first of all. Now, the Samsung Galaxy S6 is certainly the most feature packed device on the hardware front that we’ve had in quite a while. They’ve moved to a quad HD display, running at 2560 by 1440. That gives a pixel per inch density of around 577ppi. Now one thing I want to mention with this 5.1in display, is this is a quad HD, it’s not 4k. Now you might think to yourself what does that actually matter?

It’s twice the resolution of 1080p and as such it does provide exceptional graphics quality.

The colours here are bright and vibrant and they really pop and you cannot see the pixels even if you tried. But this is a marketing thing at the end of the day. It’s a higher resolution display on the S6 but it certainly isn’t quad HD. That’s just a marketing term that in many respects is misleading people into thinking they’ve got a 4k display in their smartphones.

This time round they are going to Samsung’s in house chip, the Exynos 7 octa 7420 processor is in the Galaxy S6. Now essentially what this is is a 2.1Ghz processor with eight cores in a big-little configuration, backed up with 3gig of RAM.

Using the CPU’s big-little configuration and eight cores, the phone will intelligently kick in the cores that are needed for high power but the rest of the time will fall back onto lower power cores, extending the Samsung Galaxy S6 battery life.

Camera duty this time round is being served by Sony with a 16 mega pixel shooter with an aperture of f1.9.
Now the focal length there is 28mm. Interestingly, we now have optical image stabilisation back.

Samsung has dropped this S6 out for, coming in at the £599 price point feels a little bit high for my liking, especially when we consider many other devices are hitting the £550 mark instead. Is there enough here to justify that extra £50? Well, potentially there is. That quad HD display is really really gorgeous.

The camera, again, beautiful. There’s a lot here to consider bang for a buck. But ultimately time will tell whether consumers are willing to shell out that extra money for what is perceivably not a huge uptick over some of the other manufacturers’ feature offerings.

If you’re in the market for the best smartphone today it is the Samsung Galaxy S6 by a country mile. But if any of the features that Samsung are offering here leave you cold you may want to wait for other devices coming down later in the year.

I hope you’ve really enjoyed watching our review of the Samsung Galaxy S6. Do please let me know in the comments what you think. Let me know your feedback, both about the device and about the review. At the end of the day everything is subjective when it comes to smartphones but in my opinion I believe Samsung has delivered a knockout blow that sets them on a very solid footing for the rest of the year and into 2016.

Xbox One Game DVR. Today I’m taking a look at Game DVR on the Xbox One. This is Microsoft’s answer to how to share gameplay with the Xbox One and sadly it’s another example of Microsoft doing what it wants to push its services over delivering workable functionality that gamers want.

As a replacement for Twitch TV support Xbox One Game DVR is a failure. It’s way too limited and the final 720p footage lacks sharpness associated with HD footage.

If you’re into arcade action – and aren’t we all – the ARC Squadron: Redux will be on your shopping list.

One from Psyonix Studios it has stunning graphics, loads of good content and smooth controls. It’s been G4TV’s Game of the Week so that tells you something about it.

The storyline is that the Guardians are taking over the universe, which sounds pretty cool, except they’re a race of evil characters and they’re not paying a social call.

They particularly hate peace loving folk (which is you) so they’re determined to wipe you out as they go on their planet storming mission. It’s up to you to get to grips with these enemies and if you don’t – well, I’m afraid it’s curtains for you and the planet!

The controls are easy to use, just a touch and you’ll be blasting the Guardians out of the sky, although as there are nine of them it might take you a while.

The graphics are stunning and optimised for HD displays, there are 60 different levels with more than 20 unique environments. Nine boss battles take place over 15 challenge levels and you have six upgradeable ships with unlockable ship skins and eight upgradeable weapons.

You can pit your skills against your pals with leaderboards and achievements.

Android 3.1 is needed for this free game. It doesn’t have tilt control but that’s a detail, everything else about it is good.

Now and then we come across one of those games that we really like because it’s a bit different.

You can have too many car chases or endless runner style games with pretty graphics.

With ShaqDown you’re getting full-frontal zombie action as basketball star Shaquille O’Neal gets to grips with some rather unpleasant characters.

The storyline is that a zombie virus has mutated and the resulting zombies have enslaved mankind.

Shaq’s job is to save the day using his magical powers and superior strength. So that’s it basically. The zombies are facing a ShaqDown, like it says on the tin. The animation and HD graphics are by Street Fighter Artist Long Vo and they’re pretty good.

The game, from One Spear Entertainment, is 62p from the Google Play Store and you get three game stages with thousands of mutant zombies. If you earn Shaqra you can unlock new game modes.

Not a difficult one to play either, if you’ve got the Samsung Galaxy 3 or the Note 2, just grab it and get on with it.

Currently free on the Android Play Store, Pudding Monsters need to save their friends from the fridge owner by turning themselves into a Mega Monster.

Suitable for all ages, and easy to play, the colourful game, from the makers of Cut The Rope, has all sorts of monster shapes and personalities and you can use cloning machines and other wacky ideas.

This is an addictive puzzle adventure using innovative game play mechanics and entertaining graphics which should keep you busy for hours.

There are no timers or points, you just need to collect three stars at each level. If ZeptoLab can make it a bit more challenging it will be even more appealing.

If you want the HD version of Pudding Monsters, you can download it for just 62p.
