The post How to turn your Galaxy S4 into a PC with an MHL Dock appeared first on Androidizen.
]]>Turning your Android Smartphone into a PC of sorts is really easy and a fun weekend project, combined with a Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse or a Joystick and you can extend the power of your Smartphone in new ways.
With the Galaxy S4 you have more than enough power to play the best Android games and 60 fps on a big TV.
Using a Smartphone like the Galaxy S4 as a PC is easy all you need to do is plug in the KiDiGi MHL Dock to your TV or Monitor using an HDMI cable and then plug-in the Micro-usb adapter so it has power.
The benefit of this is the dock will also charge your Galaxy S4 while it’s sending a picture to your TV or Monitor.
One you have the dock wired up to your display device plug-in the galaxy S4 or S3 by placing it into the dock.
Check out this video that shows the process in action on our YouTube Channel
You may need to push it down firmly but try not to move it too much as you do this as it can cause the Micro-usb adapter in the dock to flex.
Due to the way Samsung’s Auto-rotate option works you will be stuck in Portrait on your Display to solve this download an application called Rotation Locker it’s free and it will allow you to force Landscape for your output.
Once you have that done you can hook up a Bluetooth Keyboard and mouse or a Joystick via Bluetooth.
Android makes for a great Gaming system when hooked up to a large TV or monitor and if you want to get some work done using an app like Multi-window allows you to have a desktop like experience.
You may want to avoid running your Galaxy S4 display all the time as it lowers it’s life span so either turn the brightness right down to save the back-light or use an app that shuts down the display until you want to power it back on.
You can also use a simple cable like an MHL Adapter that will allow you to do all of the above but with a more cable management, in my opinion using an MHL dock with your Android device is so much easier and not a lot more expensive.

We can expect the Note 2 to also get these features in due course as well.
It’s interesting to see the gap close a bit between the S3 and S4.

]]>To help you choose the best protection for your Samsung Galaxy S4 check out our round-up of some of the best Galaxy S4 cases on the market today.
If you owned the Galaxy S3, or the Note 2, you will be familiar with Samsung’s standard Flip Cover. This clever case replaces your battery cover and offers a hard front face that flips across your screen to protect it from bumps and knocks.
Consider this the gold standard in cover safety. Available in black or white.
New to the Galaxy S4 is a case that you will wonder why they aren’t all like this. It features a cutout on the front of the case and a small magnet.
The S View Cover allows you to see notifications and answer calls, all without having to open up the case to look at the full screen. The magnet wakes or sleeps the S4 automatically when the cover is used.
There’s something very cool about receiving a phone call with the S View Cover. Reject or answer with just a swipe on the touch sensitive S View panel without ever opening the cover. Awesome! Available in black or white.
The FlexiShield Galaxy S4 case is a great third party case for users who don’t want their screen covered at all with a flip cover.
The meta-material of this case is like a hard gel, flexible yet tough, encasing the rear of the device and offering a small lip around the front of the screen.
The FlexiShield will help protect against knocks and drops, although a direct hit to the screen will still be a possibility with this case. Maybe invest in a toughed screen protector when using a FlexiShield. Available in many different colours.
There you have three awesome cases for the Galaxy S4 have you spotted a great case? Let us know in the comments.

]]>The post Which Android Phones have the Best Battery Life? appeared first on Androidizen.
]]>No one wants to have to charge their phone in the middle of the day, or panic during a power outage. So, how do you choose the best Android phone? Well, start with learning about battery life.
The average life of an Android phone is about ten hours, although some phones have a much better battery life and some have significantly less. Certain activities such as surfing the Internet or playing games can drain battery life. However, here are some of the best Android phones in terms of battery life regardless of whether you use your phone for talking, texting, Android gaming, or as a web browser:
By far the industry leader, the Razr clocks in at an impressive sixteen hours (or even as much as 19, according to some sources). With its huge 4.3 inch screen and 8mp camera, 4G connection and 1.2 GHz speed, as well as its light construction and super thin body, it’s hard to go wrong with this phone.
With a battery life of nearly sixteen hours, the Rugby Pro offers a sturdier construction that makes it safer for those that are hard on phones. It’s also 4G with a fast processor although the camera offers a more modest 5mp. It does, however, offer a more rigid frame and is waterproof for up to a half hour under a meter of water.
This phone falls much closer to the average battery life of Android phones, clocking it at slightly under twelve hours (although some sources rate it much higher). However, it does offer the most bang for your buck with its big screen, light weight and incredible processing speed. It also has an 8mp camera and a high resolution screen and is considered the best rival of the iPhone.
By far the biggest phone with a great battery life, the HTC DNA offers a whopping five inch screen but a light weight and a 1.5 GHz processor – one of the best available. With both a rear and front facing camera (rear is 8mp and front is 2.9mp), you can get great shots with this phone. While some consider the large size a bit awkward in pockets, the large size makes it excellent for entertainment. With a battery life of about eight hours (some sources go as high as eleven, but most say seven to nine), you’ll need to keep your charge cord handy.
So what phones should you avoid? The worst battery life offenders are definitely the pay-as-you-go phones available at stores that specialize in prepaid services; some phones barely make it to the three hour mark. If you are worried about battery life, it’s clearly a smarter bet to go through the big service providers to get the best deal on a great phone.

]]>Bladeslinger is a dystopian future where the wild west is the central theme, you are armed with cybernetics, a Gun and Blade. Fighting through stages to unlock the next the graphics and gameplay are top notch.
With a unique optional control system that we would recommend you check out as it works very well Bladeslinger is a game you won’t want to miss.
Currently retailing for £3 on Google Play this title is well worth grabbing and one to show your friends.
Bladeslinger is one of those games that’s going to pick up a lot of awards.
The storyline is that William Glaston, complete with stetson and other cowboy regalia, returns to his deserted home town to confront evil creatures and liberate Hammer’s Peak.
The game has 3D environments and characters and lots of graphical detail, pretty much arcade quality. You need to be quick on the draw with touch screen combo attacks and walloping monsters. But it isn’t difficult to get the hang of it.
It costs £1.97 but the devs Luma Arcade have created plenty of non-repetitve gameplay, there’s lots of exciting action and progressively difficult challenges.
Bladeslinger is optimised on Android devices with 512MB+ RAM and there are more graphic optimisations on Tegra devices.
If you run into any problems just hop into the Google Play Store and leave a question. The devs will help and your comments will help with future updates of the game.

]]>Shellrazer is one of those Android games that you just can##Q##t put down. It has an entertaining storyline, fun graphics and 30 enemies.
You##Q##ve got to ride a giant War Turtle against pesky goblins, in this side scrolling shooter, while avoiding monsters and steampunk war machines. Along the way you travel through difficult terrain, including mountains and deserts, collecting warriors to join you in your mission.
There are more than 75 levels and 15 champions, each with eight upgrades, so you##Q##re not going to run out of gameplay any time soon. And if things get a bit tame, just stuff your War Turtle with chow and see him go!
And even better, Shellrazer##Q##s free to play, with more than 450,000 downloads in the first couple of days of release. OK, there are nag screens and inapp purchases, but if you##Q##re good enough you should be able to play the game without needing to buy a coin pack.
The devs, Slick Entertainment, have fixed a little bug which gave some probs on the Samsung Galaxy S3 so this game is now good to go on 1,701 devices. If you have a problem, email the devs to let them know so they can sort it out for you.

The faux leather feel is excellent and I always like to get away from the boring black and white or brown cases.
All the ports are well milled on this wallet case so you wont have any problems plugging in headphones or your USB connector. The Volume rocker on the side can be a bit more difficult to hit due to the spine of the case but it##Q##s not a deal breaker.

]]>There are quite a lot of arcade games which have been revamped for the 21st century but Asteroid 2012 is one of the best for the Android phone or tablet.
It##Q##s a really timeless, classic game full of asteroids and villain aliens.
Unlike the old arcade games with their basic shoot-em-up styles, Asteroid 2012 3D Android has been optimised for Android phones and tablets and with the 3D graphics you get a full-on playing experience, you really could be there, taking part in a war of the worlds.
You can control the spaceship with virtual controls or you can use the accelerometer. Especially good for Xperia Play owners.
You won##Q##t find it too difficult to get to grips with the aliens as there is loads of upgradeable weaponry to deal with all the aliens and there are lots of different arenas for fantastic gameplay with a brand new UI.
Pit your wits and your skills against the very best to win a place on the online leader board.
The gameplay is fluid, intuitive and the frame rate is fabulous. It##Q##s a great adaptation of a traditional game with stunning graphics and evocative music.
You might want to play this on your Android phone, or there again, it runs just as well on a Android tablet.
There##Q##s a fairly big nostalgia market out there and Asteroid is one of those games that will never go out of fashion. It##Q##s been enhanced and updated for modern gameplay and it##Q##s all the better for that.
Asteroid 2012 3D from m-spacemedia, the developers behind the hilarious Honeyrun HD, is on sale now at 59p. It##Q##s great value from the Google Play Store and has a large number of satisfied customers who have rated it 4.3 out of five stars.
We##Q##ve been running it on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and it##Q##s performed well. Taken a brief look at it on the Nexus 7 but not had enough time to get to grips with it there to assess what it##Q##s really like, but initially it looks very promising.
Asteroid 2012 3D Android reviews on Google Play Store are generally very good and praise the developer for helping with advice and sorting out any play glitches quickly.

Power ups include health, attack boosts and shields, Waa Cha! is a great fun game that will keep you hooked for hours.
How cute is this! Waa Cha!
Cartoony-style, this game takes its inspiration from Chinese Kung-Fu and it##Q##s your job, should you choose to accept it, to help Master Wu Shou to train his students.
You need to be quick on the draw though, because you need to kick away a myriad of diverse items that will come zooming across the screen towards you. It##Q##s easy enough to do that as all you do is swipe your finger across the screen.
Get it wrong, though, and failure will result in you losing health and if you make yourself too ill, you will die.
This Android game from Big Bunker Studio is really charming. It##Q##s free to download from the Google Play Store and is rated as suitable for everyone, so even the younger family members can have a go at it.
You can play Waa Cha! in two modes, the easiest, Survival has no time limit but you##Q##re up against the clock in the Arcade mode. When you get really good, you can promote yourself to the Insane mode where you have to avoid explosions while getting to grips with a mad change in the gameplay which means swiping left alters things on the right and vice versa.
Something like that anyway, I said it was mad! Have a go and try it yourself!

Samsung is in a selling war with Apple##Q##s rival iPhones for the biggest share of the $200 billion market, so a revolutionary new screen could see a significant sales boost.
The technology could include LEDs on a plastic surface instead of a glass one, making the smartphone lighter and possibly cheaper to manufacture.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 is also expected to have a 13-megapixel camera, with a 441ppi 1080p screen, one up from the Samsung Galaxy S3##Q##s 306ppi 720p display and the iPhone##Q##s 326ppi.
It will also feature a larger and better display as well as a more powerful processor.

The ongoing legal spat with Apple has made potential customers realise that Samsung phones have plenty to offer and the firm is trousering plenty of cash on the back of it.

]]>Samsung has just released a video showing the measures they take to check the devices##Q## durability so that when it hits your pocket, or the ground, or does a few spin cycles in the washing machine, it is as near indestructible as they can make it.
And Samsung really are on the button, with the smartphone buttons pressed thousands of times, the devices sprayed with water, and vicious attempts made to scratch the screens. The Gorilla Glass 2 screen on the S3 came out of the trial with flying colours.
We particularly liked the test where a model of someone##Q##s large rear was pretending to sit on the phone, in our experience that##Q##s a bruising encounter and something you only do once. The polycarbonate chassis on both devices barely flexed.
If you##Q##re really worried you might damage your phone then check out your household contents insurance to see if you are covered there before you opt for more expensive specialist insurance. These days most insurers do cover phones and laptops.
The reality is that if you##Q##re sensible and buy a good quality case for either device, then even if you drop your smartphone on the corner, the case should be a reasonable shock absorber. These are large devices for smaller hands so it##Q##s not so easy to keep a good grip but the right case will make a difference. The reality is you##Q##re probably more likely to misplace the Note 2 SPen than you are to damage the phone. Here##Q##s a review of a case we checked out recently.
As for pressing all the keys thousands of times, here at Androidizen I think we must be carrying out our own tests, such are the number of phone calls we make!

Which ever phone you choose you will be in safe hands the build quality of both is excellent, it##Q##s a shame on the Galaxy note 2 they covered the speaker and moved hte LED flash but they are minor quibbles.
Both devices are very fast but the Note 2 wins out on spec coming with a 1.6 gig proccess to the Galaxy S3 1.4 both are quad core. Depending on where you buy your S3 it can come with either 1 or 2 gig of ram.
The note sports a slightly better screen running a Super AMOLED RGB screen to the S3##Q##s Pentile display.
If you still can##Q##t decide it may be best to consider what you want to do with your device. The S3 is easy to fit in the pocket and hold in the hand. The note 2 on the other hand is great for media nad games and the S-pen is ideal for road warriors or people looking to move from paper to a digital device.
I have both devices and they are fantastic I like the Galaxy S3 for its perfect balance of features, size and performance and the note for it##Q##s extended features like S-pen and a big battery, gaming and media also feels more immersive but the trade off is size.
The ultimate shoot out it##Q##s a draw they are both epic wins for any buyer, what ever you choose you have the class leading device.

You can make better progress if you get more weapons in-app purchases, but then that##Q##s the same with most free to play games these days.
The gameplay is fluid and the framerate solid so Monster Shooter Android is definitely one to try out as a free to begin with to see if you like it enough to spend any money on upgrades.

]]>Free from the Google Play Store, with the option to pay for later chapters, it features rabbits living dangerously with cannons, lions, and flaming torches. The villain of the piece is the Ringmaster Fox, one Claude Reynard, who doesn##Q##t seem to have had much health and safety training, from what we can see.
The hapless Stunt Bunnies are going to meet a sticky end unless you can get Jet Bunny to save them by using unlockable power-ups, crash mats, rocket fuel and fire jackets.
There are 40 levels and two games on offer, Story and Arcade. The graphics in this Chilibit offering are enchanting with lovely animation and the rabbits all have different personalities.
You can either use this as SD or HD on your Android device, and you can also upgrade if you want extras. There are 50 coins included to use in Claude##Q##s Circus Store so you can get some of the kit Jet Bunny needs to save the other bunnies.

]]>Take your travel sickness pills before you jump aboard the Rail Rush game for a roller coaster ride of fun.
You##Q##re a miner in this wacky Android game from Miniclip, and you##Q##ve got to collect precious stones as well as gold, all the time tearing along in a wagon, trying to avoid obstacles using tilt control.
There are four different characters and you can level up to earn more gems. The scenarios include caves, waterfalls as well as more unusual habitats like spider nests and dead cities.
It##Q##s got cartoony style graphics so there##Q##s plenty of colour to entertain you while you##Q##re whizzing round the track.
Power-ups can help you on your way through the six challenging Rail Rush environments and you rank up as you complete missions successfully.
This is another game you can play against your M8s or with anyone else as there are game statistics and online leader boards. Catch up with all the latest gen on this game on Twitter and Facebook.
Can be a little bit laggy but not bad on Android tablets or phones and free to play from the Google Play Store.

]]>The post Rayman Jungle Run Android Review on Samsung Galaxy S3 appeared first on Androidizen.
]]>Here##Q##s one of our favourites, Rayman Jungle Run.
From Ubisoft, quite rightly a multi-award winner for some stunning games over the years.
Rayman Jungle Run is a pickup and play game suitable for all ages with it##Q##s cartoon style graphics and fun gameplay.
It##Q##s a pocket money sized £1.99 from the Google Play Store and at that price it won##Q##t break the bank, especially as this is pretty much a must have title with lots of return value.
There##Q##s been a lot of investment in the lovely graphics and scenarios and some new worlds to discover as you unlock powers. Nice to listen to as well with a fresh music track.
The game plays well on Android, nice smooth touch with very little lag and a good frame rate.
There are 10 new levels which include plenty of hectic outdoors environments as well as a Land of the Dead wacky level.
Ubisoft have fixed a previous problem where saved games were binned, so that##Q##s good. It##Q##s quite a challenging game so one you##Q##ll want to return to in a quest to do better!

We would love to see Samsung expand the lock screen in future Galaxy devices like the upcoming S4 to include even more features.
